The IBS discrete mathematics group welcomes Dr. Younjin Kim (김연진) and Dr. Minho Cho (조민호), new research fellows at the IBS Extremal Combinatorics and Probability Group.
Dr. Younjin Kim received her Ph.D. from UIUC in 2011 under the supervision of Prof. Zoltan Furedi.
Dr. Minho Cho received his Ph.D. from KAIST in 2023 under the supervision of Prof. Andreas Holmsen.
Both start their positions on March 1.
Jinha Kim (김진하) from the IBS Discrete Mathematics Group has been appointed as the IBS Young Scientist Fellow as of March 1, 2023. The title of her research proposal was “Combinatorics on simplicial complexes“. Congratulations!
On January 2, 2023, Debsoumya Chakraborti from the IBS Discrete Mathematics Group received the 2022 Outstanding Researcher Award (우수연구원상) from the IBS president. In addition, Mia Oh (오미아), one of our staff, received the 2022 Outstanding Staff Award (우수직원상) from the IBS president. Congratulations!
On December 13, 2022, Sang-il Oum of the IBS Discrete Mathematics Group received the Choi Seok-Jeong Award of the year (올해의 최석정상) from the Minister of Science and ICT of Korea. This is the 2nd year of this award named after Choi, Seok-jeong, known for discovering a pair orthogonal Latin squares of order 9 for the first time ahead of Euler.
The IBS discrete mathematics group welcomes Dr. Suyun Jiang (江素云), a new visiting scholar from Jianghan University, China. She is visiting the IBS extremal combinatorics and probability group for 21 months from November 4, 2022. She received her Ph.D. from Shandong University in China and is currently an assistant researcher in the School of Artificial Intelligence, Jianghan University, Wuhan, China.
The IBS Discrete Mathematics Group (DIMAG) had its third internal workshop with the new IBS Extremal Combinatorics and Probability Group (ECOPRO) at the Yeosu Expo UTOP Marina Hotel & Resort under the name “The 2022 DIMAG-ECOPRO Joint Internal Workshop” on October 31-November 3, 2022. Participants include almost all current members of DIMAG and ECOPRO, Minki Kim from GIST, Cheolwon Heo from Sungkyunkwan University, Eun-Kyung Cho from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, and Semin Yoo from KIAS. Every participant presented open problems and had active discussions.
The IBS discrete mathematics group welcomes Dr. Nika Salia and Dr. Zixiang Xu (徐子翔), new research fellows at the IBS Extremal Combinatorics and Probability Group from September 1, 2022.
Dr. Nika Salia received his Ph.D. from the Central European University in 2021 under the supervision of Prof. Ervin Győri.
Dr. Zixiang Xu (徐子翔) received his Ph.D. from the Capital Normal University of China in 2022 under the supervision of Prof. Gennian Ge.
The IBS discrete mathematics group welcomes Dr. Alexander Clifton, a new research fellow at the IBS discrete mathematics group from August 16, 2022. He received his Ph.D. from Emory University under the supervision of Prof. Hao Huang. He is interested in extremal combinatorics.
The IBS Discrete Mathematics Group welcomes Dr. Jun Gao (高峻), a new (and second) research fellow at the IBS Extremal Combinatorics and Probability Group from August 1, 2022. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) under the supervision of Prof. Jie Ma.
The IBS discrete mathematics group welcomes Seokbeom Kim (김석범), a new graduate student at the IBS discrete mathematics group since August 2022. He is currently a graduate student at the department of mathematical sciences, KAIST.
